This exceptional early 20th-century Danish studio pottery bowl is a rare collectible designed and handcrafted by the prominent Danish master ceramist Niels Peter Nielsen (1888–1968). Created during his highly influential early period at the Egebjerg Pottery near Horsens (circa 1909–1918), this piece represents the roots of modern Scandinavian stoneware design. The bowl is crafted from a heavy, iron-rich brown clay base, highlighting Nielsen’s mastery of wheel-thrown forms with deep, rhythmic concentric ridges on the interior. The organic, rustic aesthetic features a beautiful matte, metallic-flecked iron glaze that predates and inspires later Mid-Century brutalist trends. The underside features the artist's authentic stamped signature with the rare, interconnected "NP" monogram (ligature) and the incised country of origin "Danmark", confirming its historical provenance. Niels Peter Nielsen later co-founded the legendary Danico workshop (1919–1929) and Dagnæs Keramik, making his early signed Egebjerg pieces exceptionally hard to find for serious collectors of Scandinavian art pottery.
